Katy ISD is teaming up with the Fort Bend County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, local EMS, fire, and law enforcement agencies for an active shooter exercise at Tompkins High School today. The exercise aims to test the district’s emergency response plans and coordination with local agencies. It will involve emergency response vehicles, aircraft, and simulated weapon sounds, but no live ammunition will be used. KISD is also considering an $840.6 million dollar bond package to go beyond the state’s minimum school security standards — which now include the mandatory installation of panic buttons.
