Voters reject $68 million bond

In Matagorda County, voters overwhelmingly rejected a $68 million bond proposal to expand Matagorda Harbor. Nearly 85% of voters voted against Proposition A in the election held on Saturday, with just over 15% supporting the measure. The defeat was a blow to Port of Bay City Chairman George Harrison, who held three public meetings and even set up a booth at the county rodeo to promote the bond. Had it passed, the expansion would have been a long-term project with the first few years spent on permitting, followed by construction.
