Governor Greg Abbott paid tribute to eight brave law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, including El Campo Game Warden Justin Hurst, who was fatally shot by a poacher in March 2017. Although there were no local observances, you can find each officer’s name on the Wharton County Peace Officer’s Memorial near the jail. Let’s take a moment to honor these heroes who selflessly gave their lives to protect our communities.
