ChalleNGe Academy

In Texas, a new bill proposed by Representative Steve Toth aims to tackle school fighting by referring kids who engage in violent behavior to a program called the ChalleNGe Academy. The tuition-free program, sponsored by the Texas National Guard and funded by state and federal funds, accepts 16-18-year-old Texas residents without a felony record. Instead of suspending or transferring students to alternative schools, they would attend the ChalleNGe Academy. Currently accepting up to 150 cadets per cycle, Toth hopes to expand it to 300 if HB 34 passes and he can secure the necessary funding.
