The Wharton ISD Police Department has been granted $29,000 from the Office of the Governor to purchase seven ballistic shields. WISD Police Chief Landy Williams received approval for the grant and presented a resolution to the board of trustees to complete the purchase. The shields will be located at each campus, and are equipped with a silhouette cutout to position a rifle for added protection. Williams hopes the shields can help save lives should there ever be an active shooter on campus.
