New license plate-hunting system

El Campo is getting a new license plate-hunting system to help track down wanted felons. The Flock Safety automatic license plate readers were approved in a 6-0 vote by the city council, with state funds covering the $45,200 dollar two-year contract for hardware and service. The system includes eight monitoring cameras placed in strategic locations throughout the city, which will be linked to state and national crime information computer systems. This will allow officers in one city to track a wanted felon’s vehicle’s license plate in another city as well as locally, notifying them of the location.
