Gulf Coast CASA is marking National Child Abuse Prevention Month by raising awareness of the need for more community members to become CASA volunteers. These volunteers are assigned to one child or sibling group to advocate for their best interest in court, school, and other settings. They get to know the child and everyone involved in their life, such as parents, foster parents, therapists, and teachers, in order to develop a realistic picture of their situation. A ceremony was held at the Wharton County Courthouse on Wednesday, where pinwheels were placed on the lawn to mark the occasion.
