Homelessness and a teacher shortage

Fort Bend county commissioners have heard proposals from a coalition of nonprofit agencies, and the Fort Bend chapter of the American Federation of Teachers to tackle the issues of homelessness and a teacher shortage. The nonprofit coalition asked the court to devote up to $13 million of unused federal American Recovery Act funds for a multi-year, multi-phased program to address homelessness. While the commissioners were receptive to the proposals, some were concerned about diverting funds from committed projects, such as broadband internet access and employee healthcare obligations.
