The hopes of an undefeated district championship for the El Campo Ricebirds ended as its rivals, the Wharton Runnin’ Tigers, won 76-73 last Tuesday night at Ricebird Gym. The Ricebirds at one point led by nearly 20 points, but the Runnin’ Tigers — starving for a playoff position — fought back and pulled ahead of El Campo in the fourth quarter to win the game. Wharton sophomore Jacoryan Dickerson finished with a game-high 26 points but he eventually fouled out of the game.
