Former El Campo police chief dies

An El Campo police officer for more than 27 years and chief for slightly more than one, Terry Marek died
Nov. 3rd in San Marcos. Marek was born in El Campo, raised in Louise and served 28 years as a police officer with the El Campo Police Department. He became the fourth chief in the department’s history in February 2009 upon the retirement of Chief Jim Elliott, but resigned in August of 2010 citing unspecified personal reasons
A memorial service will be held at a later date, according to officials at Triska Funeral Home. Marek was known for carrying a blonde wooden night stick at a time when almost all patrol officers carried ones painted black.
