Law enforcement turn six people over to Border Control

The Wharton County Sheriff’s Office says On Monday, 08/08/2022 at approximately 1:30 AM, a member of the Wharton County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Unit attempted to stop a gray Toyota Tundra for a window tint violation in the area of U. S. 59 Northbound and CR 423. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop, and a pursuit ensued. The driver exited at Loop 183 in Wharton. The driver then made a U-turn and entered the U. S. 59 Southbound Entrance Ramp. The driver traveled southbound on U. S. 59 before exiting the roadway and entering a pasture just south of CR 467. The driver traveled approximately 100 yards into the pasture before coming to a stop. As the vehicle came to a stop, several individuals began fleeing from the vehicle. A thorough search was conducted, and six individuals from Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico were located. U. S. Border Patrol was contacted, and it was determined that all six individuals had entered the United States illegally. The vehicle was impounded, and the six individuals were later turned over to the custody of Border Patrol.
