Attempted traffic stop leads to pursuit, arrest

The Wharton County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a vehicle pursuit early Sunday morning. A deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop, and a pursuit reached over 90 miles an hour. Eventually, the vehicle went into a field of thick brush off of CR 463, and mutliple people fled the vehicle. Six individuals were located laying down inside the bed of the truck. US Border Patrol was contacted, and it was determined that all six individuals had entered the United States illegally . They were detained and later released to Border Patrol. 33-year-old Robert Charles Bruines of Houston, Texas was apprehended and charged with Smuggling of Persons, Evading Arrest, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Cocaine, and two warrants out of Harris County for Indecency with a Child .
